Ready, set - register! Bloomsday runners are filing their registrations to run in the annual 12k race around through and around downtown Spokane. The online doors opened on New Years Day and so far 1,450 people have registered to run until their heart’s content on May 6th.

Every year, the amount of registered runners increases as the race becomes even more popular in the region. Race director, Don Kardong, says it’s too early to throw out an estimate for expected racers.

“We’ve been growing the past four years so we expect our numbers to be up again this year, “ Don Kardong, race director said. “We won’t know for sure until the last week.”

This year Bloomsday is introducing a new aspect of the race that you won’t see on the streets. You can let your online friends know you’re training for the race by adding a badge to your Twitter avatar that says, “In Training”. It’s still in the works, but be on the lookout for that.

Registration until April 22nd is $17 and after that it increases to $33. You can register online, by mail and in-person. The full details for Bloomsday are expected to be released in early March.
